On-line Financial Eligibility Indicator
This on-line indicator is a less complex version of the means test carried out in the Board's law centres. The indicator cannot guarantee financial eligibility for legal services, as it only checks disposable income. It can only act as a guide. The value of disposable capital assets may also be taken into account when assessing an application for legal services. The Board also considers the merits of a case prior to taking a decision to grant representation in Court, and the type of case must be one that is covered by the Civil Legal Aid Act. Criminal matters are not covered by the Civil Legal Aid Act.
The indicator does not constitute an application for legal services. No information that is included in the indicator is retained by the Board. Please contact any of the Board’s law centres if you wish to make an application for legal services.
This indicator will allow most people to gauge if they are likely to satisfy the income means test for civil legal aid and advice. However, if you and /or your partner are self employed, have complex financial circumstances or are joint parties, to the action you wish to take or are defending, this indicator may not be suitable for you . In these circumstances please contact a law centre for a more comprehensive financial assessment.
It takes approximately 5 minutes to complete the indicator.
In order to complete the income assessment, you may need some documents to hand, such as a payslip or social welfare receipt.
